YOUR DAY ON THE COLORADO RIVER

Good preparation makes room for wonder.

You do not need to arrive as an experienced kayaker. You do need to arrive prepared for an outdoor desert environment. Quick-drying clothing, secure footwear, sun protection, and an honest assessment of your comfort with several hours of paddling help the day begin smoothly.

Lake & Canyon Expeditions provides the kayak, paddle, fitted personal flotation device, dry bag, bottled water, snack, briefing, and guide support. Your confirmation supplies the exact meeting, pickup, and timing details for your selected departure.

The objective is not to bring more. It is to bring the right few things, then give your attention to the river.

01WHAT TO WEAR

01 / WHAT TO WEAR

Dress for water, sun, and changing canyon shade.

Choose lightweight, quick-drying layers that allow comfortable shoulder movement. Swimwear may be worn beneath river clothing. Avoid heavy cotton garments that stay wet and become uncomfortable. A light layer can be useful during cooler months or shaded departures.

Wear secure water shoes, sport sandals with heel straps, or other footwear designed to stay on in and around water. Loose slides and flip-flops are poor choices for carrying gear or moving across wet shoreline surfaces.

02WHAT TO BRING

02 / WHAT TO BRING

Protect the essentials and leave unnecessary weight behind.

Bring sunglasses with a retainer, reef-conscious sunscreen, a brimmed hat that stays secure, and any personal medication you may need. A phone or compact camera can travel in the provided dry bag, but no dry-storage system eliminates all risk around water.

Avoid glass, bulky luggage, valuables you cannot afford to damage, and anything that cannot be secured inside the kayak. Guests using Las Vegas pickup should keep the day’s personal gear compact and confirm storage questions in advance.

03THE BRIEFING

03 / THE BRIEFING

First-time paddlers start with clear instruction.

Before launch, the guide introduces forward strokes, steering, stopping, spacing, and group signals. Equipment is fitted, questions are addressed, and the launch is organized so guests enter the river in a controlled sequence.

On the water, the guide sets a pace for the group and chooses the practical paddling lane. Wind, current, water level, boat traffic, shoreline activity, and guest ability can all shape the route and turnaround decision.

QUESTIONS / ANSWERED

Useful details,
clearly stated.

What should I wear on an Emerald Cave kayak tour?+

Wear comfortable quick-drying clothing and secure water-friendly footwear. Add sun protection and bring a light layer when cooler or shaded conditions are possible.

Can I wear flip-flops?+

Secure sport sandals or water shoes are a better choice. Loose flip-flops and slides can come off while carrying equipment or moving around wet shoreline surfaces.

Should I bring my phone?+

You may bring a phone or compact camera and place it in the provided dry bag, but water exposure is always possible. Bring devices and valuables at your own risk.

Do you provide water and snacks?+

Bottled water and a trail snack are included. Guests with allergies or specific dietary needs should discuss them in advance and may wish to bring an appropriate compact alternative.

What if the weather changes?+

Weather, wind, water, access, and traffic are monitored. The guide may adjust the timing, route, stops, turnaround, or departure when conditions require it.

Where do I meet the tour?+

Choose pickup from Mandalay Bay’s Beach Level or the Willow Beach self-drive option. Exact meeting details are sent with your confirmed reservation.
